Popular Cat Types

Here you can find some of the most popular cat breeds and how to take care of them!

This home page will talk about general cat care, and some of the most popular cat colorings.

Cats are generally less high-maintenance than dogs, but that doesn't mean that they don't need anything. Here are a few things to keep in mind when keeping a cat.

Food and Water: Your cat has three main food options: dry food, wet food, and raw food. Most vets recommend a mix of dry and wet food, with raw food being a rarer recommendation. Wet food is generally better for cats, but make sure not to give them too much. Cats also need fresh, clean water. Some cats prefer moving water, so getting them a water fountain is good. But make sure to refill the water everyday.

Litter: Cats use a litter box to go to the restroom. Make sure not to put the litter box near their food and water, and keep them in the same places. It is recommended that if you have a larger house, to have multiple throughout the house. Clean the box everyday, to ensure use from your cat. Different litter types suit different cats, so do your research beforehand.

Other: Cats often groom themselves, but helping them with a cat suitable brush can prevent hairballs. Generally, indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats, as it can prevent all sorts of dangers from getting to the feline. Make sure to keep them stimulated, and give them suitable accomodations, including a bed, cat tree, and various toys.

Here are some popular cat colorings. Keep in mind that these aren't breeds.

The Calico Cat
Calico cats are cats with a tri-color coat. The most popular colors are white, brown and orange, but they can vary. Like all of the other cats in this list, calico cats aren't a breed, but a coloring. Because of this, they do not have any defining personality traits. But calico cats are mostly female due to chromosonal differences.
The Orange Cat
The orange cat is, like the name, purely orange. But they have a few defining personality traits. One of them being craziness. Orange cats have often been recorded doing questionable things. But they are also more affectionate, and show greater sexual dimorphism. You can learn more about why this is here.
The Tortoiseshell Cat
The tortoiseshell cat, otherwise known as the "tortie" cat, is a bi-color cat with colorings ranging from black to orange and red to yellow. They, not to be confused with calico cats, are also mostly female, and are viewed as good luck. Torties often have a distinct temperment, labeled "tortitude", and are quite sassy.
The Tuxedo Cat
The tuxedo cat is a bi-colored cat. But unlike other multi-colored cats, tuxedo cats are only black and white. The arrangement of the two colors on their coats resemble a tuxedo, hence the name. They often have a black body, white chest and white paws, sometimes with a black spot on their throat. They are also often called "Tuxies".
